(Of course I’m also nutty about dreams… but the magnitude of difference between the ‘real world’ and the ‘dream world’ is well depicted, I think. What is most satisfying is that the music perfectly matches the story, sproing-ing and boing-ing all around and finding a perfect little gnomish groove somewhere right in the middle of all the insanity.) Wowza.

‘Seed’ is a truly amazing tune. The first time I listened it almost brought tears to my eyes.

My acoustic guitar is a Fender model DG9; it’s a cheap-o discontinued model, but I’m very fond of it. And so I’ll be interested to hear the resonances that form around this particular compilation.

General Oglethorpe and the Panhandlers – now there are some people destined for great musical things… I can’t get over that’s their first demo/recording. Bloody brilliant.

We’re still familiarizing ourselves, hearing who’s who. The bold, experimental sounds of The Falling Floors, gorgeousness going on over here with Foxes In Fiction. And Failed Sitcom?! Glad they made it in time. Syncopated, passionate storytelling of General Oglethorpe & the Panhandlers…

My favourites on these things change day to day – yesterday it was a battle between Lenn9o9n and Bespeckled Egg, today I woke up and haven’t been able to get General Oglethorpe out of my head… I’ve been listening to this thing for a week now, and I’ve had more favourites in that week than I’ve had good nights sleeps in the last 5 years

This feels like an amazing introduction to so much great music, it makes me wonder how I haven’t heard some of these people before (Tuck Son springs to mind).

Big-ass psychedelic blues riffs with electronic John Cale-esque viola drones throughout.

Track 2 sounds pretty much like an early Velvets’ outake. That’s some dark pop music. Track three sounds like Arthur Lee playing through a load of messed up analogue hum.

Compie 5 is actually getting a makeover behind the scenes – discs two and three were halfway through being levelled out when it went public. Should be an all-new shiney version by the start of the week if all goes acording to plan.

Plus a new Daydream Generation Records record.

Yeah, the Cozy Home comp… Well, figure 62 bands and 4 hours versus 13 bands and like 45-50 minutes… That and the fact that I’ve got legions of undead trained gibbons doing data entry and burning CDs, silkscreening t-shirts, et cetera, so I’ve got a wee bit more free time. I can give you the name of the voodoo doctor that raised them if you like.

Agreed about the list of groundbreaking artists, but I think there’s a very conscious descision getting made here about whether to sell yourself or give yourself away. I’m pretty sure that this is just the beginning of things… what’s interesting me a lot at the moment is how to compete with the financially backed labels, the racing cars of the modern world, in terms of promotion & advertising. I’m tempted to conclude that organic, slow growth is the only way, there’s something very uncredible & sickening about posting 20 MySpace bulletins a day about yourself. Ideas on a postcard.

I’d rather give my music away to 100 people who are really excited about it, than to sell 25 CDs to people who really couldn’t care less and will listen to it maybe once, maybe never. Maybe that’s music snobbery, but so be it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as I recall, the truly groundbreaking artists never set out to change the industry, and didn’t really know or care what to do with it when it happened — they were just doing what came natural: i.e., Hank, Elvis, Cash, Dylan, Redding, Beatles, Velvets, Ramones, J&M Chain, Nirvana.

HWL single for DG5 as well while we’re here ;)
